Linen circle placemats

A pair of placemats in natural linen and coarse-woven cotton canvas. A circle is set into the middle, and the areas around it are quilted with straight stitching in parallel lines.

Why I made it

The placemats were a Christmas present. I wanted them minimal, in a natural yet modern style. So I kept to the natural shades of linen and looked for interest in texture instead: smooth linen next to coarse canvas, and stitching whose lines turn 90 degrees from one area to the next.

What I learned

They were my chance to try setting a circular piece into a flat panel.
