Striped pillows under the Christmas tree
Made2016

Folk Christmas pillows

Covers pieced from stripes of red, white and beige cotton canvas. A decorative stitch runs over the seams between the stripes and looks like folk embroidery.

Why I made it

The pillows were a Christmas present for someone in Slovácko, the folk region of South Moravia, and that is where the idea came from. I paired clean, simple stripes with a subtle ornament that only hints at folk motifs.

What I learned

It was one of my first projects on my then brand-new Brother Innov-is 30, so I got to try out several of its decorative stitches on something real.

Finished

Three pillows, each striped differently
Seams covered with a decorative stitch
One of the decorative stitches on what was then my new machine. I tried out quite a few of them on these pillows.
Two pillows in stripes of red, white and beige canvas
The zip hidden on the side
The front of a pillow
A version with a beige centre stripe
A corner of the pillow
